Profile : Juan graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1966 and the University of Texas School of Law in 1968. He started in the title business in 1970 as a title attorney. In the ensuing years he worked as chief title attorney and general counsel for the title company that was then the market leader. He also performed duties as an underwriting counsel for a major underwriter when the need arose. Juan was a part of the original group that got together to form Presidio Title.
How long have you been in the title industry?
I have worked in the title industry for thirty-eight years.
What do you enjoy most about the title industry?
In general I truly enjoy doing what I do. In particular it is nice to occasionally be in a position to assist in solving a problem that allows a closing to take place so that the new owner can enjoy their ownership without having to deal with any past title problems.
What do you find unique about Presidio Title in comparison to other companies?
When other companies are cutting corners and even outsourcing their title work to offshore companies Presidio still is doing the background title examination in the old fashioned way. Presidio is keenly aware that the customer not only wants a title policy but a title to their property that is free of problems. As an old title person once told me, “Going to a person’s house and giving them a check for the policy amount and then telling them that they have lost the title to their property is not going to make them very happy.”
What is your proudest achievement at Presidio Title?
Being here at the beginning and helping to get the company off the ground.
What do you like to do for fun?
I like to read fiction, watch the grandkids grow, do some fishing and woodworking, not necessarily in that order.
